I've been going to an online high school for 6 weeks now. It's a school that has real teachers and real students, but it's online. The school has an online chat room where class meetings are held. A teacher from a certain class holds these meetings and the students in that class participate in the meeting and discuss what they are learning in that class. So here's the story: I was in an Art meeting, and all the sudden, this kid starts messaging me! (You can send class mates private messages in the meeting room) He said: "Hi how are you? :)" I said: "I'm fine. You?" And we were just basically making small talk like that. Then the teacher told the kid to stop chatting me. He did, but when I checked my school email, I found a message from him. I responded and we talked for a while. I was stupid enough to give him a link to my Facebook page, along with my home AND cell phone number. Within a few days of talking to him, he told me that he was interested in a relationship--and I had never even met him. I was flattered, but at the same time, creeped out. I didn't know what to think. He would tell me that I was cute, and sweet and such. Of course, any girl would be flattered by words like that. Then this kid told me that he was homeless, and barely had enough money for food. Of course, I felt badly for him (and even lost sleep over it) but ironically, the kid had an iPhone...Suspicious, right? A few days later, a girl from my school messaged me, saying that he was pestering her too, and she was creeped out. Apparently, he was calling her pretty too, and was saying that he was interested in HER as more than a friend. My mom and I did some snooping, and found that he had more than 5 different ACTIVE Facebook pages with the same name. Also, I saw a bunch of girls posting on one of his Facebook pages saying things like "I don't know you! Why are you always trying to talk to me?" Something was definitely up. I learned many lessons through this experience, and from now on, I'm going to be more careful about who I give my information to. You should never trust someone until you get to know them really well first.
